Basketball Betting Lines

03/03/2010 - Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kobe Bryant finished with 24 points and six assists, as the Los Angeles Lakers routed the Indiana Pacers, 122-99, at Staples Center.

Jordan Farmar added 19 points off the bench on 8-of-10 shooting, while Andrew Bynum scored 16 for the Lakers, who have won three in a row. Pau Gasol hauled in 16 rebounds to go with 14 points.

The Lakers outscored the Pacers 38-17 in the third quarter on the way to the blowout victory, as they continued their home dominance of the Pacers. Los Angeles has won 11 in a row against the Pacers at Staples Center.

Troy Murphy had 17 points and 13 boards for Indiana, which has dropped four of five and eight of its last 10 overall. Dahntay Jones and Josh McRoberts added 16 and 15 points, respectively, off the bench.

The Pacers held a 28-27 edge after the first quarter, though the Lakers forged ahead in the second. They led by as many as seven in the frame, including when consecutive baskets from Bynum, Gasol and Bryant made it a 51-44 game with 3:58 left. Los Angeles took a 60-54 lead to the break.

The Lakers blew the game apart in the third quarter, when the Pacers made as many field goals (seven) as they had turnovers. Several of the turnovers came in a 10-0 Lakers run Ron Artest and Lamar Odom capped with threes for an 87-67 advantage.

Los Angeles scored the final 10 points of the third quarter to take a 98-71 lead to the fourth, and cruised the rest of the way.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot.  The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.

TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the  drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.

"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,'  it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
